Update with good news!

I put an update on my posting of Oct. 29 and I will repeat it here-

***UPDATE 11/18/2011-  I am happy to report that with the help of a friend we were able to connect with someone at Scotch and Soda who helped us come to a settlement that I am happy with. I am grateful that this was able to be resolved quickly and cleanly. Thank you for all your support.***

Let me reiterate- I am so grateful for all your support- well, and especially my husband. Go Ben!

I have a little more faith in the world today and also in people doing the right thing- with a little encouragement. I have A LOT more faith in the power of the voice and many eyes of the Internet! This situation has given me much to think about and I plan (and maybe it will happen) to blog about my thoughts on copying, inspiration, what I learned, the useful advise I got, etc. For now I will leave the original post up but will start editing it tomorrow. I would like the comments to become a list of useful advise, information and links for anyone who finds themselves in a similar situation.

And something pretty- a fun treat I bought yesterday at Gather Here.

  1. Hooray! I am so glad it got sorted, but even more glad that you are sounding so happy and relieved. (I totally disagree with the attitude that imitation is a form of flattery – especially applied to a professional artist, when it is a big company doing it). Well done. :)

  2. Good to hear from you about the resolution to the copying issue. I’m glad it turned out all right.

  3. Mimi,

I hope you got a design deal out of this, in addition to some kind of settlement, because I would have totally bought that shirt if I’d been thinking straight. It looked pretty cute. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear to be available any longer. Heads’ up for collectors…

If appropriate contacts are watching, they should be contacting you for some textile licensing opportunities… ;)

  4. THRILLED to learn you got a settlement!!
    NEVER just walk away. That’s
what I learned and we have both helped other artists
    with our follow through.
Proud and happy for you, Mimi!!

  5. That is THE best news! I echo others in saying how it’s good to hear YOUR relief. I look forward to the ‘Outfoxing the Fox’ series of celebratory dolls. ;)

  6. Mimi, I’m so happy you found resolution to this. Yay for you! And a textile deal sounds exciting! I don’t know if you have ever thought about it before this, but your unique designs would obviously play well with cloth. I just love your dolls and ideas, you are an inspiration to so many. It just makes me smile to see your things! Angela

  7. So glad that the situation has be resolved ~ best news ever! and, it’s nice to have a knight in your life too!
    Love the fabric.

  8. Congratulations! I do hope you find time to write about this and related issues, so that we by means of reflection and debate can start to try to define what’s acceptable and what’s not.
    Best wishes,
    Mlise

  9. Thank you so much for going the harder route and doing something about the stealing of your designs. I know it’s so much easier to just sit and do nothing than to take a stand and say my product/photograph/idea/etc… is worth defending, just as vigorously as a big corporation would defend their ____ (fill in the blank), because I have had to do it. Every time someone does this, it affirms that artists’ work has value. As I have often said, “If everything is everyones then nothing is yours.”

  10. Oh that’s fantastic news Mimi! I really hoped it’d turn out that way.
I’m so glad. How brilliant to see a company do the right thing. : )
