So what would you do with an XXL mens wool sweater when it started to fall apart and had a few holes in it? This is what I did…
of course I have a bit left…

I just went back to Feb. 13 to read my first post…
So it has been about 6 weeks and this will be an update.
–Agnes is done and she sits in a childs rocking chair in the room where I’m sewing these days.
–Haze is finished and has gone to Kansas City. She is on her way home now.
-The 2 Woman’s Home companion dolls are still both undressed… well actually, one has a hat and middy, and shoes and socks painted on, but no pants, the other is naked.
-The cranky looking kid? No progess.
-2 out of the 3 gourd dolls have bodies. The third one’s body is started- I’ve got the arms/hands made and turned and the fabris for the rest is dyed.
-Deare girl… well, I finally repainted her shoes blue… today! She needs a petticoat and then she is done. I need to photograph her, get the pattern together and send the paperwork off to Ike.
-I’ve got 30 new finished bugs and 15 more that need legs.
-3 of my dolls now have finished stands… always the last and least fun part of showing a doll.
It is very hard for me to change gears, going from the dolls to the bugs and back. It always take some regrouping time, cleaning up from one type of work, sorting and putting things away. I spent most of today cleaning up my attic room… it wasn’t too cold. Lots of mess left over from the various projects since Christmas time.
Now I really have to get back to work on some dolls!
Here are some of my new bug pins showing off the new colors of their legs! They are sitting on the new cards I am making to display them on/ pin them to. I am making these to have some new colors and a good selection, just in case…
Yesterday, after my trip into Boston,I got off the T in Harvard Square and walked over to CAC to check up on the bugs. I brought them 20 pins at the end of February. None have sold yet – bummer. Maybe they will be a spring item… hmmm. I thought they were very nicely displayed though, and everyone at the gallery is very nice. I hope this works out.
the bugs are multiplying… but they can’t get away, I’ve got them pinned.
I am back to bug pin production, now that I’ve sent the dolls out. It has been 3 months since I made the last ones. Now, all the little tricks and techniques that I had figured out have been totally fogotten… I can’t believe it! I am not completely starting from scratch, but it will definitely take some time and there will be waste before I get back up to speed… something I hadn’t really thought about when I had the plan of doing bugs for a few days every 2 months or so.
Finally finished! Stand and all. More pictures here. I will pack up the dolls today and ship them out to Kansas City tomorrow.
My critique? Hard to be specific, but I am not completely satisfied. I tend to be more satisfied with any artwork, when the process is more flow and less struggle… I kept hitting dead ends while working on this doll. Because of that, it will take me a bit of time to assess her with clear eyes. I’d give it a 92% out of 100%. Forest Child was 100%- I was completely satisfied with that piece when it was finished. I will be interested to see the written critique I get… I wasn’t very impressed with the one last year (about Esther), but the comment on the doll stand was correct.
I am still trying to work this pink mohair yarn into something for Haze. The color and texture are a perfect complement to the rest of the doll. I am making a very loose shawl… let’s see how this works out.
I am also working on the doll stands for 2 of the other dolls I’m sending to Kansas City.
