A beard was a challenge! I needed to balance out the black of the beard- I made HEAVY eyebrows and decided that the belt idea, suggested by several commenters, was a good one. I didn’t want to go over into the Strong man category, so kept the belt on the small side. And on the other end is the trapeze artist… It’s a fine line to get it just right! Oh, that reminds me, then there is the tightrope walker… hmmm
side of the head view, and also the back-
There is another picture here on Flickr.
Thank you, thank you for all the comment love from the past few weeks- here and also on flickr. I thrive on it! I have been remiss in acknowledging it. I try to reply to comments on the blog- when I can think of something to say or when someone is new. I’ve never figured out a way that works for me to thank flickr comments. As you may have noticed, I’ve been working very hard lately on the dolls and the computer stuff is lagging behind. If I haven’t replied to an email, please pester me… I might have lost it in the pile.
I am preparing inventory, in my rather haphazard and disorganized way, for Craftland, in Providence, RI. I will post more when it get closer. I am hoping that I can get my act together over the weekend and read all the paperwork for Craftland, sort through what I have, make decisions about what to send them and then post some new work to Etsy.
Mimi, these circus guys are so fab! I’ve been enjoying them on flickr, too. Love all of the hair-do’s and facial embroideries. And the stuffing looks so *perfect*!
BEARD! I love it. Especially paired with the hair on the back of his neck. Genius. Beautiful. p.s. Is it sick that I love their little nipples? Probably.
Hi Mimi, I check on your site most days because I am simply in love with your work and seriously considering buying 1 or 2 for xmas as gifts.
My question today, is, do you still dolls like “lone” which are in your dolls set on Flickr?
What a great beard! The embroidery on this one is fabulous. The thinner black belt works really well too. Good solution….It balances all the detail on the face and works with the black shoes….. Looks more finished now.
These pants are a riot. :)
He is fantastic! I love the embroidery on the beard (he looks like my brother, minus the tattoos…) and the belt is a fantastic addition. I agree with the previous poster who said that the belt makes the doll look more finished.
Hi. I am a new visitor of your website. You are so talented! These circus dolls are incredible! Your detail and ideas are just wonderful. Well done! Let us all know when some hit Etsy please!
oh my god, mimi! the beard is outrageous! love it.
I love all your tattooed men but I think this fella with the beard is the bestest!!
Oh that beard is masterful! I adore the blue stitching that gives it such depth. These tattooed men are absolutely fab Mimi – your dolls have such character and are so unique.
Haha, with the beard he looks like one of those Chinese Kungfu masters in the old movies. :)
I love this one! And the beard..so beutifull!
congrats from Portugal! (:
Mimi, Sandy and I love the tattooed men! What a great idea. Also, I like the sky babies from awhile back.
