checking in

This seems to be the time of year where very little posting happens here- too many secret projects. I looked back through some other years and yep, pretty quiet around here.

But, there is a lot going on. I don’t like post without photos near the top so I’ll start with the wildlife adventures-

mouse

Yikes! Mouse in the house! Mango assumed that Santa made an early visit, just for him. Our neighbor says about mice- there is never just one… I am hoping it came in when I brought the plants in from the porch.

And, we have rearranged the living room and put up a bird feeder. This is my view as I work on the computer now-

We got snow from the big East Coast storm although not as much as a lot of other places. The kiddos are trickling in for Christmas. Peter has been home for more then a week- sleeping mostly or at least when I am awake he’s sleeping. Julian came home last night, just after the snow stopped. Pick-ups at the airport in snowy weather are becoming a new Christmas tradition. Eleanor is due in on Wednesday. I guess we should assume that means we will be getting more snow then.

I’ve got lots of projects going- enough that I am making myself crazy and they will never get all finished. Hey, another Christmas tradition! I want to try out this bleach pen technique, inspired by this post at Angry Chicken. I had a heck of a time finding a bleach pen. Then I did some tests. Now I am super nervous about the actual project- Silly me!

I am doing some baking and major mess making in the kitchen. We got the tree on Saturday before the snow came. It is not decorated yet. I no longer do Christmas Tree- someone else can do that job. I can be very Grinch-y around Christmas. It is a very stressful time for a maker. Especially when you also have a family that expects to have a Christmas. I find myself screaming in my head to everyone in my vicinity – If you want a f…ing Christmas, help out a little around here!! I keep it to myself though. My problem. Breathe.

Very soon I am off to the Boston Handmade Downtown Gallery. I’ll be working there today- 11 to 3.

  1. You have a lovely view from your window. Hope Mango found the mouse and that you get it all done in time! I love your bunny too. Have a lovely Christmas!

  2. What a gorgeous wintry vista! Our girl escaped your snowy Boston yesterday. Her early flight was canceled but luckily she snagged a seat on a later one, so now I can relax about that. I hear your pain about holiday stress, it’s a love/hate rollercoaster ride around here at Christmas. Breathing is good, and so is wine! Cheers!

  3. Now that I have a baby girl my relatives keep nagging me to get a Christmas Tree… but I really don’t see the point. I keep imagining my animals somehow managing to kill themselves in it. So, I am the bigger grinch. Ha.

Sometimes Christmas on its own is stressful enough without having to decorate around it.

  4. That looks like one well-fed bird on your feeder! You must be doing an excellent job of keeping it well stocked.

Laurel and Greg got here last night. I was expecting them this afternoon and was in the process of mucking out Olivia’s room for their stay. I had to go into overdrive, but phew – got it done! Bob’s mom arrived Friday night between canceled/delayed flights due to freezing rain conditions. Greg’s mother and stepfather are arriving Christmas afternoon for 2 days. My inside voices are getting a workout too!

  5. Love to hear that you are a normal human being and not just a gifted maker! I know exactly what you mean bout rushing like crazy this time of year in the studio and in the kitchen… mine’s a total mess too. Only difference here is that I’m wearing a t-shirt and shorts and that I have only seen snow like that once in my life!!

  6. Hmmm. Why is it that the woman is always the default creator of holidays? My husband did a super job CLEANING UP after our big Hanukah party. I was grateful for that. By the way, you have a pretty view, particularly with that snow. We didn’t get any here in the North Berkshires when the storm came through.

  7. I know its not PC, but does anyone besides me feel a bit sorry for the little hapless mouse? Just trying to be warm. I know, I know…….

  8. That view is just amazing . To me , it looks like a postcard and you know what ? I am speaking the same language as you this christmas…..

  9. Can I just say, how refreshing it was to read your blog this morning! I too share some of the Bah humbugs this time of year. It doesn’t help when all the imagry, stories and songs are all based on an unrealistic version of the holiday. This past week has been crawling by and since Christmas things have been out in stores since August, I’m ready for the whole thing to just be over and done with. Now, if you’ll excuse me I have to go wrap presents, ugh.

  10. Mimi,
Here on the Front Range our 5th snow storm of the season is going to white Christmas, starting this evening! Lovely to see your snow.

I talked with an artist who offers lovely OOAK tee shirts with branching trees. She said she started with bleach pens, but has better control with a discharge pen. I have seen these at Dharma Trading Company. They have a great web store!

    Happy days. Stay warm. Wyncia

  11. Ah yes! My husband keeps wondering how I don’t have the time to do things around the house that he wants done. I keep wondering how he can possibly wonder that when the things that I NEED done aren’t even finished. It is a very stressful time of year for sure.

  12. My youngest is cooking Christmas lunch here this year ! I’m so amazed my inner voices are right down to an occasional peep .
Have a Merry Christmas and enjoy it all with everyone !
