She is #4.

When I sorted through my wool fabrics last winter and came across this orange herringbone, it seemed perfect for a kitty. Then, when she was ready to dress, I discovered the real challenge. The bold herringbone was very difficult to match up with clothing colors and patterns. It all worked out though- I love my sweet butterfly moon kitty!

The third kitty is warmly dressed in muted colors but he has his red and black checked vest under his jacket.

He has a cashmere scarf and a functional backpack that closes with a tie and an antique button.

Back in March, I made up a group of kitties with sewed on clothing. Now, I am working on a group with removable clothing plus accessories, just like the foxes. As usual, I thought, No problem! Just like the foxes! – But no. Lots of little tweaks were needed with the patterns. I now have a rather large pile of clothing rejects that will hopefully find another kitty or fox where they will work. Anyway, here is Kitty #1!

She is wearing a dress made from Heather Ross designed fabric, a soft corduroy jacket, and a silk ribbon at her ear.

I didn’t start out to make all these kitties be girls. I traced out my pattern and drew lines to make the “shirt” piece. When I sewed them up and stuffed them, the shirt ended up looking too short for a boy kitty- there sort of needed to be a skirt. Next time I cut these out, I will adjust the pattern pieces.

She has 2 antique shell buttons- one at her collar, one at her belt. I love picking out just the right button from my collection.

She was a real challenge. The faces are the hardest part since they carry the personality. This fabric, with it’s bold pattern, overwhelms the details. Also, I had some idea when I cut out the kitty- the bold fabric with a black top- but I apparently forgot what the vision was when I went to finish her up. It was a challenge to find the right colors and fabrics that did not scream Halloween. I need to get better about noting down these inspirations so I actually remember them!

And here she is in front of some of our Christmas decorations. The garland was finally uncovered enough that I could take it down!

I am going to be away next week and will be putting my Etsy shop on vacation mode while I am away. That will include the patterns, in case you need to rush over and buy one!
