kitties and more kitties

I am almost done with the pattern. I am trying to get decent photos, tweaking the wording, page order, general look of the thing. I guess it is time to show some of these cuties since that seems to be the way I declare them finished . I showed the first model way back at the beginning of October– wow, it is kind of shocking how long it takes me to do this.

This is the sweetest, softest one. She is made from a cabled wool/angora blend sweater. The cables sort of disappeared when I felted the sweater.

I get hung up on the dumbest things. Should I name the kitty or just name the pattern “Kitty”? If I give a boy and girl kitty name, will that set a precedent for future pattern naming? Flower names, tree names, food, historic, my personal favorite names, names hopelessly out of fashion? It is overwhelming!  Opinions wanted please- is it better to give the doll a name or leave it plainly descriptive?

  1. Very very sweet kitties, Mimi. I have the same problem in naming my cats but after working on them for 10+ hours they have a personality and naming them after a favorite flower, food or name seems natural. Have fun with it…there are no rules! I don’t see why you couldn’t number these like Rosa does too….let the buyer be the one to name them then.

  2. Oops- not clear I guess- I mean naming the Kitties on the pattern. It would be how I list the pattern when I sell it.

  3. I like the idea of “Kitty-girl” and “Kitty-boy” better than giving them specific names. After all, each unique one that gets made will have their own personality.

It certainly seems to be the style currently for patterns and toys to come named rather than described.

I know that as a child I was really unhappy that (manufactured) dolls came already “named”, it made it hard for me to think of their own name, as separate from the (corporate) branding.

  4. Tey are absolutely GORGEOUS !!! I would name them. With proper name…but that’s just name….
acording my son, here are some names : for the cat with the red skirt : juliette, the red cat with the jacket : rufus; the cat with the green skirt would be cleo; the yellow cat would be mouss (as mustard…) ; the brown one would be coco and the blue cat would be josephine.
    But that’s just us….

  5. I like the no-name idea and agree that each one made will emerge with their own name for the maker or the cuddler!

  6. What fun to see these all finished! You’ve been busy. I’m with the “kitty-girl” and “kitty-boy” crowd. They will acquire proper names from their happy creators. :-)

  7. Just darling! Every one of them! Love the back sides of them, too. I’ve wondered how you dealt with the back seam and the tail. :) Great solution! You so make me want to try felting—definitely make me want to make one of your kitties, whatever you end up calling them.

  9. I love all of them, and am excitedly waiting for your pattern. Whatever names you chose will be great. Thanks for sharing your gifts with us!

  10. Kitty is perfect. They are all adorable, you inspire me a lot with your works and I am waiting for your pattern. Thank you.

  11. Mimi’s Kitty. Recognition of the designer in every mention, every where, plus, it is your kitty. ( Duh) But really, you should name it after YOU and then name all your patterns thusly- I would like to visit Mimi’s World, where the kitties are knee deep and the trees extra tiny! I guess actually beaming me in would be extra….

  12. Love the kitties. I am looking forward to the pattern. I think it is fine to name the finished kitties, but for the pattern, I like kitty girl, kitty boy. As we create our own they will develop their own names!

  13. How about “Kitty-Kitty”? Or cuter “Here Kitty-Kitty”
Assuming the the boy and girl versions are both going to be in one pattern.
