As you have probably noticed if you are reading this, I have continued to have a certain amount of technical problems with my blog since the great meltdown. The photos aren’t consistently loading (mostly not) … oh, you’ve noticed? Hopefully it will get resolved soon.

Anyway, here are some links I’ve been meaning to post-

Eeyorfactory is my neighbor Heidi. Aren’t her kids’ clothes amazing?

A few weeks ago, I went to see Crafts at the Castle, one of the high end craft shows in Boston. It is always worth a visit to see the beautiful work. One of my favorites- Sarmite Wearable Art. Wow! I can’t see myself wearing one of these since I go in for invisible as a fashion statement, but I’d LOVE to have access to their scrap pile! The fabrics were so delicious! The colors and texture…. maybe I should write and ask… would that be too strange?

very cool- Laura Balombini

This intrigued me- Danielle Gori-Montanelli . Her jewelry is made of felt. Beautiful colors, wool and in a variety of thicknesses up to about 1/4 inch. I asked her where it came from and she told me it is Italian. Does anybody know how I could get some of that thick (1/4 inch), soft (you could cut it with scissors), wool felt? Is it available anywhere online?

robot 8

I started this guy back in October but got distracted by other ideas. I was inspired to finish him to take to the sale last weekend. Having robot dolls on my table attracted customers I’m not used to seeing… men!

I wonder how much call there ever was for gray rick rack?

And here is the back- that’s what I always want to see –

I’ll be out of town for a few days- my Mom’s 90th birthday!

fat fairy 11

Fat fairy 11 is my November colored fairy- dark olive green, gold, red. Her body is made from hand dyed wool. I bought a box of wool fabrics years ago at an estate sale- the lady made hooked rugs. The fabric is finally finding its’ way into my work…

Her skirt is made from a metallic fabric that I bought last summer when I was out in Chicago. Her hair is made of felted wool roving. Here are her wings-

I’ve been slowly adding more work to my etsy shop and also to my gallery. It is easier to post to my gallery so right now, more pieces are there.

fat fairy 10

I’ve spent all of the morning trying to take advantage of the minimal light to get some decent photos to post on my Etsy shop. I’ll be doing more tomorrow when hopefully there
will be better light.

It is going to take some time to get it all posted so if there is anything you’ve seen in the past few weeks that you are curious about or interested in, please email me. I am still catching up with the photo postings of what I did last week. Here is fat fairy #10.

shop update

I will be doing a BIG shop update in the next few days- that will tell you something about how the sale went this week-end! Oh well, thank goodness it wasn’t the first show I ever did or I would be very discouraged. It really turned out that it was not the right venue for me. I was able to talk to some of the other people who were selling and got some good ideas for other places that might work better for me. It is always an ongoing learning process.

I’ve already put a few things up in my Etsy shop this evening if you want to check them out.

kitty 8 and 9

Yikes! The Holly Fair set up is today and I haven’t caught up posting pictures of my new work. Here are 2 more kitties- sweet, gray, kitty 8-

12k8.jpg
She is made of a woven wool fabric- maybe from a coat or something. Her skirt is reproduction 30’s (I think) fabric with little bunnies on it. Her sweater is a recycled wool sweater, embroidered with wool. Here is a closer look-

12k8sweater.jpg
Kitty 9 is made from a soft woven wool from my Mom’s stuff. I sort of remember that she had made herself a suit from it. It feels really nice and is tightly woven- beautiful to sew.

12k9.jpg
His jacket is made from a wool/angora blend sweater- I made one of the sweater babies out of it too. I lined it with a plaid cotton. Wool felt scarf and messenger bag.

and here is the back side-

12k9back.jpg
It is probably obvious how different these two cats are- as I said earlier, I’ve been tweaking the pattern.

kitty 7

Another wool and angora blend kitty. This boy kitty has a lined vest made from one of my favorite old sweaters. That made it really hard to cut into!

12k7.jpg

He’s got a knit tie- it’s from a thrifted sweater that didn’t/wouldn’t shrink in the wash… but a great color. Here is a the lining on the vest- a secret surprise.

Again I used snaps under the buttons.

and here is his messenger bag

kitty 6

I woke up to this the other morning- so pretty although obviously I’ve been too busy to clean up the garden…

12wetsnow.jpg
If you look at my Flickr photos you will have seen the kitties I’ve been working on. Here are the first 3-

12kittygang.jpg

this is little kitty girl #6-

12kitty6.jpg

She is approximately 15 inches tall. When I decided to do the kitties, I tweaked the pattern so that they are all slightly different. I was planning to try to make a new and improved pattern, but in the end I thought they were all cute and had their own personality. Her body is made from wool and angora blend sweaters. Her sweater is made from a recycled fulled wool sweater with vintage ribbon (Thanks Pat H.!) and sweet little flower buttons-

I decided not to do the button holes and sewed on snaps under the buttons instead.

Thanks so much for all the kind words, encouragement and advise about my computer troubles. I’m so sorry about the whining- I was sort of embarrassed by all the nice comments… here I thought I was muttering and griping and complaining to myself in the corner and people were actually listening (reading)- that will teach me! I hope that I am back on track again. Onward!

okay, I think we might be making progress!

Wow! I got another picture to upload! After I made the swaddled babies and the sweater babies, I had to make this little girl… she was insisting on getting made.
12dolly.jpg
I consider her a first draft. There are lots of little tweaks that need to be done, but at least I got out the general idea. I made her during Thanksgiving week-end which was not a good time for concentrating on anything. I can go back to work on her after things settle down- after the sales and probably after the holidays. I’m beginning to get a few other ideas to work on when that “when things have settled down” time comes.
