deflated balloon

That was how I described my creative drive at the end of last January- one of the good things about blogging is the record of such things. Now I can chalk it up to a yearly cycle and feel as though I am making progress if I get back to my studio before the end of January!

Hard to believe, but I’ve been gardening- doing the fall clean-up that I never got to in the fall. It was 70 degrees outside yesterday- which is just too very strange for Boston. I guess I can’t use the too cold up in the attic excuse for not working.
A few things that the blogging world brought into my house over the Christmas season-

17book.jpg

Shobana‘s wonderful knitting book- lots of inspiration in it. Knitting often gets me past a slump- I should start a project…

and this wonderful pin cushion from Betz White

I love pin cushions!

I was excited to see that Forest Rogers has a new blog. Her work is amazing, the faces especially. And beautiful photography.

So I’ve got a question- is this blog working better for you, oh reader? Are the photos showing up? Is it unbearably slow? Better then before or worse? It is better on my end, but I have to admit I don’t know how badly broken it has been… I kept finding new problems over the last 6 weeks. Feedback would be very helpful.

Some things I’d like to get to this coming year-

-write up and publish at LEAST one pattern.
-make cards, probably through cafepress shop
-go back and finish the many unfinished dolls sitting around my studio- they are all untouched since I showed them here and here. For the most part, they need clothes.
-teach a class- wool dolls
-more linking, more commenting, spend less money, make more dolls, go on a real vacation, laugh more, garden more, make a new friend, worry less… I’m sure there is more but that’s all for now.

Boston First Night Parade 2007

Boston First Night Parade 2007, originally uploaded by Mimi K.

It’s been a very busy week or so. Full house, lots of food, cooking, mess, laundry, shopping. Down to Connecticut for a few days. Yesterday was First Night 2007. Eleanor and I went down for an afternoon of puppet theater. The most wonderful was the Flexitoons and their take on the Pied Piper. (The link includes some YouTube footage!) Love!!!
At 5:30 in the afternoon, the Parade started. I’ve posted many blurry, shiny, sparkley photos to my flickr account. Also photos of the 7pm fireworks.
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

last minute gifts

Merry Christmas everybody! I hope all of you are more organized and ready then I am- I will be making stuff on Tuesday for the last few family gifts… I will be traveling down to see relatives for a few days mid-week. I am working on these ornaments- I am thinking of them as flat dolls, which makes me smile.

tuesday

I continue to be optimistic and post new photos… and then freak out when they don’t consistently load. Must be something they have a drug for. Anyway, today… Mango has found the most perfect spot to sleep on a sunny morning- the place I set up to photograph the dolls.

I finished this sweater baby last week-

Today I was at my local Trader Joe’s when apparently the numbers on my sales receipt came up just right- bells were rung, I got to spin a wheel and I came home with a free bouquet of flowers. It made my day!

mango gets in the picture

This is a test of blogging from Flickr. Mango was sitting in my photo set-up spot; the sunniest place in the house in the morning. And he did NOT want to move! He looks like he’s saying- ahem… excuuuuse me!

more links

As you have probably noticed if you are reading this, I have continued to have a certain amount of technical problems with my blog since the great meltdown. The photos aren’t consistently loading (mostly not) … oh, you’ve noticed? Hopefully it will get resolved soon.

Anyway, here are some links I’ve been meaning to post-

Eeyorfactory is my neighbor Heidi. Aren’t her kids’ clothes amazing?

A few weeks ago, I went to see Crafts at the Castle, one of the high end craft shows in Boston. It is always worth a visit to see the beautiful work. One of my favorites- Sarmite Wearable Art. Wow! I can’t see myself wearing one of these since I go in for invisible as a fashion statement, but I’d LOVE to have access to their scrap pile! The fabrics were so delicious! The colors and texture…. maybe I should write and ask… would that be too strange?

very cool- Laura Balombini

This intrigued me- Danielle Gori-Montanelli . Her jewelry is made of felt. Beautiful colors, wool and in a variety of thicknesses up to about 1/4 inch. I asked her where it came from and she told me it is Italian. Does anybody know how I could get some of that thick (1/4 inch), soft (you could cut it with scissors), wool felt? Is it available anywhere online?

robot 8

I started this guy back in October but got distracted by other ideas. I was inspired to finish him to take to the sale last weekend. Having robot dolls on my table attracted customers I’m not used to seeing… men!

I wonder how much call there ever was for gray rick rack?

And here is the back- that’s what I always want to see –

I’ll be out of town for a few days- my Mom’s 90th birthday!

fat fairy 11

Fat fairy 11 is my November colored fairy- dark olive green, gold, red. Her body is made from hand dyed wool. I bought a box of wool fabrics years ago at an estate sale- the lady made hooked rugs. The fabric is finally finding its’ way into my work…

Her skirt is made from a metallic fabric that I bought last summer when I was out in Chicago. Her hair is made of felted wool roving. Here are her wings-

I’ve been slowly adding more work to my etsy shop and also to my gallery. It is easier to post to my gallery so right now, more pieces are there.

fat fairy 10

I’ve spent all of the morning trying to take advantage of the minimal light to get some decent photos to post on my Etsy shop. I’ll be doing more tomorrow when hopefully there
will be better light.

It is going to take some time to get it all posted so if there is anything you’ve seen in the past few weeks that you are curious about or interested in, please email me. I am still catching up with the photo postings of what I did last week. Here is fat fairy #10.

shop update

I will be doing a BIG shop update in the next few days- that will tell you something about how the sale went this week-end! Oh well, thank goodness it wasn’t the first show I ever did or I would be very discouraged. It really turned out that it was not the right venue for me. I was able to talk to some of the other people who were selling and got some good ideas for other places that might work better for me. It is always an ongoing learning process.

I’ve already put a few things up in my Etsy shop this evening if you want to check them out.
