Purl Pattern

I feel like I’ve been bursting with this news since January! My doll pattern is up at Purl Bee– I am so excited!

This is the only photo I have of the finished dolls- I was in such a tizzy before I delivered them back in January. I remembered at the last minute and took a quick pic in the shop. I love how the people at Purl wrote up the directions- they are so clear with the photos and the explanation. I can’t wait to see what people do with the pattern!

  14. Ive just come across from visiting purl bee; I just love your dolls so much and what a lovely place for you to showcase them. I love the purl bee vibe and I think it suits your work so well. I am astounded at the art and beauty of your work. I shall use your template to teach my granddaughter how to sew as it is so much more interesting and artistic than the mass produced rabbit template used to teach me to sew with blanket stitch in primary school, lol.

  15. I’m enchanted with your dolls! I am drawn to things with ‘faces’ and have so many little ‘beings’ all around my house. After seeing your site (via Purl Bee) I’m going to give myself permission to ‘make more friends’ with your delightful inspiration! Thank you for sharing!

  16. Thank you so very much! I was amazed at your generosity, not to mention your talent. No doubt you are setting many other talented people into motion. Awesome;-)

  17. Mimi, you all did a wonderful job with it. Congratulations! And I didn’t realize that you have a blog until I read the Purlbee post. So happy to know that you’re here and hope we have a chance to meet one of these days. Cheers!

  19. seriously mimi?!! i’m so thrilled you are willing to share! congratulations, really great news and a great pattern…off to get some felt :)

  20. Hi, I am in love with your doll pattern and want to make one straight away! But I have a question… I see that purl bee advises doing the embroidery of the face LAST. How can that be? How can you finish off the ends of the threads? Wouldn’t you just have to cut them close to the surface and then slowly the facial features would unravel (yucky!) if the doll were actually played with?

What do you do when you make your dolls? Don’t you stitch the face before you sew the parts together?

  21. I always embroider the faces at the end. The stitches don’t seem to pull out- you pull the thread out through the back of the head and clip the thread- the stuffing sort of “grabs” the thread. I can attest that the thread stays pretty well which I know from when I try to take the stitches out and redo it!
If you are concerned, you can knot your threads under the hair or right at the hair line, in the back. That should keep things very sturdy.

  22. Hi!

I am visiting from Purl. What a lovely artist you are. I adore your wonderful detail and your dolls are delightful.

  23. I am entranced by your dolls and have downloaded the pattern from the Purl website, where I first viewed them. (I have been to their shop and recognize the window in which the jars of valdani thread are perched, and now your girls have been photographed there too!)
I look forward to making my own version.

  24. Mimi, you are so generous to share your doll pattern with the world. They are beautiful. Thank you and congratulations!

  25. The dolls are great. Congratulations on having them at Purl Bee. I loved seeing the different hairstyles options you provided. Thanks for sharing them.

  29. Oh my goodness! I was at the Pearl Bee site and found your doll pattern! I am a fan of your work and have followed your website for the last year. I am so happy for you getting this great exposure and I saw that you were interviewed by someone from Etsy as well. Good for you!!!!! You and your work shine and I am glad to see you getting the recognition that you deserve!!!!

  30. Wow. I always pop along to your site. Love it :) You are so talented. Your style is so good. Thank you for sharing.

  31. I just finished my first doll (the first of many variations, I think!) Fantastic design, very clearly written and illustrated instructions. Thank you so much! I can’t wait to make another one … but first I’m going to knit a little shawl for this one, I think. Photos on my blog.

  32. Mimi — YOur Purl doll was so much fun to stitch. I just love her — Matilda is her name — and she is going to hang out with me in my sewing room. The pattern pieces were perfect, the instructions comprehensive, pictures very helpful. Great job. Thanks so much,
    Cissie

  33. I think that you work is very exact and that takes a lot of patience. Something that I have in my work to – good on you.
