tattooed lumberjack

11:7:lumberjack 1It is time for a new camera. I’m getting cloudy spots in my photos. Bummer. I’m not a fan of upgrading my technology. I like it when I actually know how to use my tools. But really, it’s time.

I liked the bright leaves reflected in the window of the porch door.

I will be posting this fellow and his friend into my Etsy shop soon- hopefully tonight.

<3 red plaid

I feel like the finishing of things is going in slo-mo. This fellow has been on my desk for a while.

Lots of photos ahead!

He has a kerchief in his breast pocket.

10:31:big lumberjack c

And crossed axes on his belt buckle.

10:31:big lumberjack d

His chest tattoo is a cow and a milkmaid.

10:31:big lumberjack e

And some poultry on his arm.

10:31:big lumberjack f

10:31:big lumberjack h

Can you see that his hair is made from corduroy? Wool corduroy! I’ve had it in my stash for ages and finally gave it a try!

I am teaching the swaddled baby class this weekend at the New England Quilt Museum. I hear there is one seat left if any one is interested.

#101

It is a bit complicated.

This was supposed to be #101. I was rephotographing her after the trip to Washington when I noticed that she was damaged. She is torn at the crotch. That is unfixable and probably a result of all the handling involved with doing a show- the packing, hanging, and manhandling by shoppers. So instead, this is #101-

He was one of the last dolls I finished right before I left and he found a new home in Washington DC. I never took an official “portrait”, just these booth photos.

10:6:tattooman3

And here he is on display.

Lumberjack 5- back to classic

5:13:lumberjack5aIf you go to google and look at images of lumberjacks, they are almost all red plaid shirt, dark color jeans, beard, axe. This look is pretty standard and so much fun with his tattoos!

5:13:lumberjack5bHe has curly hair and beard made from black wool chenille fabric. His tattoos are George Washington in toile.

5:13:lumberjack5c5:13:lumberjack5g5:13:lumberjack5f5:13:lumberjack5eBelt and buckle above, boots below.

5:13:lumberjack5d5:13:lumberjack5hI am working on getting all my current finished pieces into my etsy shop.

Lumberjack 3- with tattoos

Remember this fine fellow? I wanted to try a slimmer version. Well actually maybe 5 or so was how many I cut out and sewed up before I was all done. I’ll get to them all eventually.

5:8:lumberjack3aThe thing is, I had a pile of dyed toile scraps that were not enough for a tattooed man or woman but just right for the smaller amount this design needs. And I’d saved them because I liked them enough that I couldn’t just throw them away. Perfect!

5:8:lumberjack3bI had fun with this beard too. It is made of an alpaca sweater bit- they get shaggy-edged when I wash them.

5:8:lumberjack3cCashmere hat, felt axe, Pendleton wool shirt, high lace-up boots, suspenders.

5:8:lumberjack3d5:8:lumberjack3eThe toile I used had scenes from Robinson Crusoe on it- he has a very odd furry man on his chest. The rest of that fabric got used on this guy.

Lumberjack 2- woodsy colors

5:6:lumberjack2fHe is all earth tones and the colors of the forest.

5:6:lumberjack2b

I made his beard out of 2 layers of sweater ribbing and I’m pretty excited about that.

5:6:lumberjack2aHere he is without his (faux fur) hat. And you can see his 2-man saw which is made of 2mm felt. It has a wire in the crosspiece so it will hold its shape.
