and then there were 2 owls

These were the last 2 dolls I finished before I left. The owls were very popular in DC, as long as they weren’t Snowy Owls- I have 5 of those still! You just never know what people will want.

I am getting back into the studio and I have a list of special requests and projects that will keep me busy through May. I am mulling over my experience in DC. Every time I go out into the world, show my work, interact with people, spend the big bucks to participate; I can’t help but reevaluate everything I am doing. I know I’ll get over it as soon as I am immersed in the work again. Right now though, I am hearing all the weird or negative visitor comments in my head. Many people don’t understand or respect the fiber arts and their comments reflect that.

Things I don’t need to hear-

I saw something exactly like this at a craft show I went to last week.

I used to make dolls exactly like these 20 years ago.

My mom makes Raggedy Anns.

Can you donate one of your dolls to my cause.

And so many more, Oh well, time to get back to work!

Fancy Fox, out for an evening

This is the third and last of the foxes that I finished before the show. All of these foxes are available if you are interested in getting one before I manage to do the etsy listing… which will be soon-ish? In the next few days? Anyway, the foxes are $225 (for now, going up to $250 when I get around to editing all the postings on etsy) with free shipping. Email me- mimik@pobox.com if interested.

Sweet face with textured knit wool shawl, formerly an Eileen Fisher sweater! And a star purse. The dress is Liberty lawn.

Fox in a squirrel dress

I’m back from Wash DC and I am catching up with the dolls that I didn’t get around to posting before I left. I am working on restocking my etsy shop and am also posting imagesĀ on Instagram of dolls that are available.

I love her very bright green bow and bag! It matches the acorn in the dress fabric.

Her sweater is a soft and fuzzy angora blend.

Blond Girl with Bows

I got sick. Such bad timing because I had a million things on my list that I wanted to get finished before I leave for Washington DC next Monday. Instead I am moving at snail speed and hoping to get my voice back and stop coughing before I have to spend a week away from home. Sometimes life just happens, right?

This little girl got finished and photographed. Twice actually… I mean I thought I was finished, took photos and then decided I was not happy. I worked on her face, gave her new hair, and made some bows. Now I am happy!

Someone on my Facebook feed posted a photo of a group of kids and one of them had a cowlick. That is her hair inspiration.
