professor fox

I tried to make this be more of an attache case than a messenger bag. Top stitching the tiny felt parts was a challenge. I discovered that if I iron them onto freezer paper, the top stitching goes smoothly- no felt getting sucked into the feed dogs. After the stitching, I picked off the paper.

Here is the inside look. The coat closes with a snap and has a decorative button on the outside. The bowtie is sewed onto a little safety pin so it can come off too.

fairy tale fox girl

I love how she turned out, but honestly, that dress was a REAL challenge!

Her dress is green wool with some ribbon I’ve been saving forever. And some cotton rick rack.

She has a wool shawl made from an Eileen Fisher sweater, found at the thrift store a long while ago. It is an amazing woven pattern knit and it didn’t shrink at all so it has been waiting a long time to find it’s place.

She has a very fuzzy (wool/angora blend) nose.

I felt she needed a basket, even though she doesn’t have hands to hold it. It will stay if I slip it onto her arm, but at a funny angle. You can see it in the first photo.

Her apron is made from a vintage (or maybe antique) handkerchief. I originally made the ties out of the top of the hankie but the fabric is weak and when I tried to tie the bow, it shred- so sad! I replaced them with a newer, stronger piece of white cotton lawn.

I like dolls whose clothes can be taken off. These clothes could theoretically come off but it takes a bit of doll acrobatics. So I left everything in place for the photos.

and the last 3

Happy Mother’s Day! I hope you had a nice day. We had a Skype family visit- so nice to sit and see everyone!

I got these last 3 finished. I restarted my juices by doing some fabric dyeing and by spending a few days away from my desk. Sometimes you have to do that.

It is PINK world! Lot’s of pastels in these ones.

I listed all the others in my etsy shop and I’ll get these in soon.

and 2 more

These were finished yesterday but the weather did not cooperate with picture taking.

The mug above is not a gorgeous Portuguese traditional pottery classic. It is a cheap Made in China rip-off that I bought at the thrift shop. Oh well- it is still pretty.

And another lighthouse-

I started another 3 tiny worlds, but suddenly I’ve run out of steam. So I went to work on the foxes and there was no energy there either. I will probably spend the afternoon puttering around the studio. Tomorrow I am off to Portland (Maine) to pick up the son from school. Who knows what I will end up working on next week!

Great Weekend!

The tiny world class was great fun!

There were 6 of us around the table (including me). One of the participants was an enthusiastic 10 year old crafter who came with her mom. She did a great job and showed everyone else up by finishing first!

Here are a few shots of the finished projects-

I managed to forget to click on my macro function so all of the individual shots I took were out of focus. Thankfully other people took some photos and were able to send them to me-

There is another here.

And today was opening day for the South End Open Market. I love going down and seeing all my friends. And getting a cupcake.

Yum!

Now I’ve got some Tiny Worlds to finish and then more foxes. See you soon!

fox girl 3

She is a fancy fox!

She is wearing a dress made from a piece of Liberty fabric that I bought at Liberty’s in London, probably in 1999. I am so happy to have projects where I actually use these special fabrics that I’ve been saving for so long.

She is wearing a silk ribbon bow, attached with a safety pin so it is removable.

I pulled out some beads for this project. They had been safely hidden away in the attic. Getting them out might be a mistake. Who knows where I will end up if I go down the bead path!

Here is a close-up of the sweater- I wanted the closures to be mostly invisible.

The skirt closes in the back with a snap.

And today was the last day for my intern Tori- Good-bye! Thanks for all your help!

Tomorrow is my Tiny World Workshop which means there will be a break in fox production. I need to focus on the Tiny Worlds for a few days. Hopefully I will get these girls up on Etsy this weekend. They will be $140 each.

fox girl 2

this little one is ready for a New England Spring day- where it isn’t actually warm but we are all pretending!

She has a ribbed wool shawl to keep warm- spring breezes can give a chill. And a dress made from some more beautiful Cloud9 fabric.

Tail room-

Cashmere sweater with embroidered loop closures. Her felt bag for treasures. The shawl has a beautiful brass floral button- guess I should have taken a photo where you could see it…hmmm.

And all her stuff-

The back of the dress closes with one button.

There were so many great links to explore on my blog tour this morning-

from CamillaMatt Stuart

from True-Up– Helen Dardik new fabric, here and here. Wow! I love it!

and fantastic stumpwork at Needleprint. Wish I could be in Bath for that Doll Fair too.
