Classes in March- whales and worlds!

Both classes will be at GrayMist in Cambridge, MA.

whales - 1

The whale ornaments will be on Saturday afternoon, March 11. If you don’t need a whale as an ornament, you could make it into a catnip toy for your kitty! Or make 10 and make a garland. Or a 1000 and make a curtain, an entire pod of whales. Wow, that would be incredible.

And then, on March 25, an all day class for Tiny World Pincushions.

tiny worlds - 1

Come and spend some time away from life and focus on something fun and concrete. The classes are small, all the materials are included, and give yourself a break from this crazy world!

hey look, a merman!

I’ve tried something new- a twist on my man pattern. I’ve been thinking about it for a long while now and finally got to figuring out the tweaks and sewing him up.

2-26-merman 1 - 1

It is fun to go through my supplies- which toile would work for a sea creature? Which patterns and colors would make a good tail? And sea hair, what does that look like? What about trims?

Here is the back of his hair.

2-26-merman 1 - 1 (4)

I like how the rick rack works but I found a lot of other trims that I will experiment with too.

2-26-merman 1 - 1 (3)

I am excited at all the possibilities. That is what keeps me interested and making.

I thought that skeletons on a boat, pirate skeletons, worked well for the underwater theme.

There are more in the pipeline!

lots and lots of fish

This past week(+) has been all about the fish. Back in August I cut out a whole LOT of fish pieces and then sewed up about half of them. This week, I put together the rest.

2-19-fish 1 2 - 1 (3)

That involves a great many color decisions which can be the best fun or very frustrating depending on the color, fabrics, my mood, the light… Anyway, by Friday, I had 34 fish sewed up. I picked out 8 to finish up- stuffing and the hand sewing. The rest will go in a bin and when I am in a fish-y mood, I will have lots to choose from!

Plain orange (hand-dyed and not exactly evenly) kitty, carrying a backpack and smoking a pipe.

He has a long-sleeve sweater which made fitting the jacket a bit of a challenge.
