This is one of those weeks where there is a lot going on and not much gets finished in my studio. I’ve got things started- things that I hope will move forward with short periods of focus. There are 9 babies started-

After I’d cut them out and sewed them up, I realized that I only had one roll of wool stuffing left (2 1/2 lbs). Uh-oh! I had to call up and order more stuffing, first thing on Monday morning.

And,  a pile of fish. My idea was to sew them together and then I could trim them, turn them and stuff them as I sit around with family over the next week or so. My daughter has arrived today and as of this evening, I have them trimmed and turned.

So, between the shopping, the cleaning, the cooking, the extra people in the house, I am hoping to get a little bit of work done and not feel too crazy by next Monday.

the light was lovely this morning although the air was nippy.

I like her nose, with a smidge of white.

I have always liked doll clothes to come off- so that is the way I usually make them.

Also, go and see Salley’s show if you are in the Boston area. It is awe-inspiring! I am so glad I went to see it again. There is so much beautiful detail that you can never take it all in.

feeling foxy

an idea, a pattern tweak, becomes something new.

I don’t know if you can tell from the above photo, but I tried out several head shapes before getting to the one that worked in my eyes.

Just like the kitty except that I changed the ears, and the tail, and the nose. Oh yes, and the arms.

I sewed up the boy fox first (although I didn’t know it was a boy at that point). He is made of a woven orange wool. He is smaller because the fabric has less stretch then the knit that the girl was cut from.

I found that I imagine foxes as boys more than girls. It was easier to come up with clothing ideas for a boy fox.

And you really need to see the profile to get the full fox look. Photographing him straight on took a lot of the foxiness away.

As always, getting the point across in the simplest way is the challenge.

I got distracted by this pretty shadow when I was out taking photos this morning.

More Liberty fabric but I’m not going to put that in the title since I ended up getting picked up by crazy  fake Patriotic spam sites when I did. Yep, weird.

This kitty looks ready for summer. Maybe she is an Australian kitty. The Liberty fabric was from a trip to London in 2008. It has been waiting in the stash for just the right moment.

All the kitties will go into my Etsy shop in the next day or two.

I found some more Heather Ross fish fabric in my stash. This piece is a different colorway then what I used on this kitty.

I found some cashmere in my stash to go with the colors in the fabric. I bet you can guess that I have a BIG stash of old cashmere sweaters.

I felt that this was a color challenge- not my typical choice and as a result, kind of exciting!

The coat makes me think of Mary Poppins. I’m not really sure why.

Liberty kitty

I love my Liberty!

I made this kitty’s skirt out of some of the fabric that I bought in Paris last June. Here is the other girl I dressed in Liberty since that trip.

Her sweater is very soft cashmere. Her all black kitty self is made from a wool/angora blend. She looks kind of shy to me.

Taking photos is a challenge in this season of short days. I only have a few hours when the light is okay- and that is if the weather is cooperating!
