#16 Delores! The giveaway is now closed. Thanks everyone who participated- it was great fun to read all the comments!
I know I mentioned the book already but I have been leisurely reading it, thinking about what she says and doing some of the prompts. I love this book. As I read along I think to myself- I do that too! or I think that too! And (maybe) I thought I was the only one. I remember a similar feeling when I first discovered podcasts and listened to loads of artist interviews. I felt so connected to people I didn’t know and amazed at our similar experiences and ways of thinking about the work.
Lilla is teaching an e-course which is an expansion on the book- all about the art markets, making work that sells, all her secret (art) agent wisdom. Check it out here.
So, if you want to be in on the give-away, leave a comment here. Anyone can enter- I’ll foot the bill for shipping wherever you are. The comment has to be on the blog- if you get the email, click over to comment. One entry per person. The giveaway will close on Sunday, March 3 at midnight est. I’ll do the random number generator thing on Monday, March 4. Good luck!
after a few comments I want to be clear- this is not a craft book, it is a book about the business of making art. You can check out the description on Amazon.
We Make Dolls is available! It has been more than a year since I sent in my contributions for this book- and now I have a copy in my hands. Two copies actually, so I am going to give one away. Add a comment to this post by Friday, June 1 (midnight eastern time) and I will use a random number generator to pick the winner. One entry per person and all that.
I love the promo poster-
There we all are!
Here is a video that shows all the projects-
I am going to write a separate post with my thoughts on the book. This one is getting way too long!
note- give-away is now closed.
drumroll please… random number generator picks #53-
Thanks to everyone who joined in to wish me a Happy Birthday! It was wonderful!
Coming next from the studio-
There are 15 men dolls, cut out and stitched together, hanging from my rack. That is what Sage (intern) and I did last week. Next comes clipping, trimming, turning and stuffing. I am hoping to have about 4 done for Chicago. I am thinking ahead for the fall already- stocking up. Before I continue with them though, I need to get a few Tiny Worlds finished. I promised someone when it seemed like loads of time and now I have a deadline looming.
And the Fresh Fish class I mentioned in the last post? Here! It looks like a fantastic weekend of fun!
and I’m celebrating with a giveaway!
It is a celebratory bunting- at least 10 ft… maybe closer to 12. Not sure. All wool scrap circles. Anyway, what better giveaway for a birthday then a party decoration? Just leave a happy birthday greeting in the comments on THIS post. The giveaway will close at midnight edt on Friday, Aug. 6. I will pick one winner on Saturday by random number generator. I am happy to send it out anywhere so don’t hold back if you are international. Jump in and help me have a wonderful birthday!
it is so exciting… drum roll please.
The winner is, #38, Katie Agnew! Congratulations!
When I hear back from her and she picks her prize, I will put the rest of the available fish into my Etsy shop. I will update this post when that happens.
In the mean time, the pattern is ready, available, and in my shop- right here! And, I have started another flickr group for posting finished fish. It is so much fun to see what people create with my patterns- really, I get all choked up when I see the wonderful creations. Check out the other groups– there is some amazing artwork.
And, 2 fresh fish-
Do you know what day it is today? It is my BLOG BIRTHDAY! !6! Oh the places I’ve been, the people I’ve met, the friends I have made, um, the stats I have gotten totally obsessed with. Yes, six years. I won’t be linking back to early posts though. Somewhere along the way, during some computer or server change-over, the early years posts are a big mess so I try to ignore them.
In celebration of 6 years of blogging and launching the fish pattern out into the world- I hope it will be finished in the next few days- I’m having a giveaway. Pick a fish! Any fish!
My school of fish is growing even larger as I work on the pattern. The winner of the giveaway will get to choose whichever one they want before I list the rest in my Etsy shop. All you need to do is leave a comment of any kind on this post. The giveaway will close on Wednesday night 2/17 midnight est. Random number generator, announce on Thursday, you know the drill. Anyone can enter the give-away, but if you win and are not in the US, I will need to ask for a contribution towards shipping which might be around $32.
Here is my desk now, as I work on the pattern-
Still taking Photoshop baby-steps.
Other news of the week- the second meet-up was just as fun as the first. There were dire predictions of snow, but none materialized. There were 2 new people- Hi Linda and Trisha! As always, all are welcome- 2nd Wed, Starbucks, Davis Sq. Somerville, 10am. Kerry’s report here.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I am overwhelmed by the response to my Handmade Portrait! I’ve been getting all choked up when I read the comments on the Storque article. And people are entering the giveaway and actually posting it to their blogs. I have to admit that when the wonderful people at Etsy suggested doing a giveaway where people would have to post the video to their blog, I thought- um, No one will want to do that- well, except my husband, but he might have ulterior motives. So again- Thank you for all the internet love. I’ve been floating on it since Wednesday!
A Reminder- To be included in the giveaway drawing, you need to send an email with a link to firstname.lastname@example.org once you’ve posted the video on your blog. All the info is here. You can enter anytime up til 5pm ET.
I am trying very hard to pull myself away from the computer and spend some time in my studio and actually get back into the groove of making stuff. There has not been enough of that for the past few months. I am hoping that the major distractions that have kept me away from my desk are now behind me. See you soon with some finished dolls.
and another thing!
Check it out! To celebrate the Handmade Portrait, I’ll be giving away this tiny world- all the details are here.
Well, okay, I will put them here too-
