one more summer girl fox

I know summer is coming to an end but I can’t let it go yet.

I’d make her a heavy sweater but it just didn’t seem right.

She has a bright, pretty skirt made from a Lizzy House fabric.

And a shirt made from handkerchief linen. Well, actually made from a handkerchief. I added a little line of lace at the neckline. And a spider-webby shawl in case there are cool breezes.

A wool felt purse-

another professor fox

This fox is of the absent-minded variety.

He has all the professorial necessities- elbow patches,

a beautiful soft leather briefcase.

But when you look inside- very disorganized! A nice red leather bound book but mostly a mess of papers.

Don’t worry though; he’ll be at school on time.

I am going to take all these foxes to Chicago for the Renegade Market. Whatever comes back home with me will go into my shop soon after September 12. And look! I was Spotlighted on the Renegade blog yesterday!

mushroom hunter fox

He is ready for the fall fungi season.

He already has found one and it’s in his pocket.

More on the cute little buttons at the end of this post.

And I know you are wondering what is in his bag.

And about the buttons- I received an email from a company called Lots Of Buttons offering me some free buttons to check out their site. Well, hurray! I’m all for free stuff! I looked at the buttons, starting at the tiniest- which is in the 1/4″ range. I am always on the look-out for good doll appropriate buttons. I picked out 4 varieties- the ones on the vest are little horn buttons and perfect for a fox vest. Unfortunately, because they are a natural material, they seem to be a bit more fragile than plastic and one of the first 4 I picked out was cracked. Oh well. I like them enough that I can imagine shopping there again. The prices seem good and they have a limited but interesting selection of small buttons. I should also mention though- they needed to substitute one of my selections and it took about 4 weeks to get them. All in all though, I am happy to have another resource for affordable and cute buttons.

first day of school fox

I imagine this little fox girl is starting her first day of kindergarten.

I was thinking about this photograph when I designed the clothes- that is me on the left.

I grew up in an era where little girls wore dresses to school- even Nursery School and kindergarten. We did not carry backpacks like this little fox though. She got all her supplies ready- 2 notebooks, a penny for lunch and a pencil.

She is wearing skirt and shirt, both made from some more of my Heather Ross stash. I’ve been saving the gnomes for something special.

Her jacket is super-soft corduroy.

and now a fox girl

I still may get those 2 more fish finished this week but I’ve moved on to foxes.

This summer girl is wearing a cashmere sweater over her gauzy summer dress. She’s got a flower at her ear.

Her dress is made from a really sweet Heather Ross fabric with frogs on it.

I’ve had this frog bead forever and I think this is the perfect girl to have it.

2 August fish

I’m hoping to get 2 more finished this week. I am cranking for Chicago Renegade for the next 10 days or so. Well, except that I’m driving up to Portland, Maine tomorrow with a van load of furniture for Peter’s new apartment.

Some details- couching on a fish fin-

And I made the tail on this fish so that the 2 sides are different, using the back and front of the sweater fabric.
