weekend report

WOW-  the Market was amazing! Saturday was so mobbed that there was a line out the door, the room was too hot from all the bodies and the crowds did not stop all day! Sunday was quieter for me and I had more time to check out the booths of other vendors/friends. There is a real comradery at the SOWA events and I love being there.

This is my booth on Saturday morning-

And then on Sunday morning-

I’ve put everything that came home with me into the Etsy shop. The tiny worlds are mostly gone though- 6 out of the 7 I brought, sold. (Hurray!)

Wednesday is the next Crafty Biz meet-up. Contact me if you are local to Boston and would like to join us and/or need more info.

bird baby 6

I am very much not finished playing with this bird puzzle design. I  have 3 more designed and waiting. Plus a lady doll with a similar motif. But, with the South End Holiday Market next weekend, I need to put those aside and finish up some other projects. So, I am pulling out a lot of partially finished items and getting them ready to go. Be prepared to be inundated with posts in the next few days!

Then, I will do a BIG update to my etsy shop next Monday.

thinking about…

Honestly, I am not sure why it has taken so long to sink in, but YIKES! I need to get some serious work done for my holiday season sales. It is probably noticing that the calendar now says November that did it. So, I am going to put aside any thoughts of finishing up a pattern for the owl or anything else right now. I’m sorry to disappoint, but I just haven’t been able to concentrate on it. And now it is November. I will go back to it when things settle down- probably in January.

I am putting together a fantasy trip in my head. Go to San Francisco next summer for the Renegade Craft Market and maybe teach a class while I am out there. Wouldn’t that be fun? Hmm, how can I make that happen? I am open to any ideas. My SIL lives in Santa Cruz and visiting there would be part of this fantasy.

I am suffering a tea cup shortage; especially ones suitable for snow scenes. You just can’t put a snow scene in a flowered cup. I’m going to have to go out hunting. And toile for my tattooed people. Finding the right fabric is a real challenge. The challenges and hardships of my art- yup!

And, btw, I should be getting those latest tiny worlds up on Etsy this weekend.

Friday and Saturday

My sister-in-law and brother-in-law visited on Friday. They had a beautiful weekend to be in New England for a whirlwind visit.

Walk photos-

And on Saturday was the Tiny World class. It was wonderful. There were 6 plus me, sitting around my table.

As always, it was so much fun to see the different directions that people go in. Here are photos from the end of the class- no one finished, but they were close.

If I get better photos, I’ll post them.

Renegade report

phew, am I tired. Bone weary. The making things part of the blog is going to be quiet for a while. Renegade Chicago was amazing. I only wish I could stand in my booth and meet all the incredibly wonderful people who come in  and also walk around and meet all the fantastic other vendors.

Here is the photo report- my daughter took a bunch of these photos- Thanks Eleanor!

Saturday morning, setting up in the rain.

Wet, rainy street.

But lots of people came.

Packing up at the end of Saturday-

Sunday was a Beautiful day! It got so busy that there were no more photos.

And, the rest of the news. I didn’t win the Hoot! contest. Bummer. But, if you are interested in any of the owls, they are available here.  My list of project for the next month includes make the Owl pattern. Hopefully that will make it happen!

my schedule- Sept. thru Dec.

This is how the calendar is filling up-

September- I will be in Chicago from 9/9 to 9/14. I will be participating in the Renegade Craft Fair.

October 30- I will be doing a Tiny World pincushion class at my house in Arlington, MA.

December-Luv-able and Hug-able at the Gallery Hanahou.

Dec. 11 and 12, I will be in the South End for the SOWA Holiday Market.

I will add anything else that comes up, but this is what it looks like right now.

good-bye Sage!

Yesterday was the last day that Sage, my intern, worked with me. Since June, we got loads of work done, went on field trips, I made her take home bags full of supplies that I didn’t want, we listened to podcasts and discussed, and generally yakkity-yakked the summer away. Have a great senior year Sage!

And about the owls. Could I have made a MORE ambiguous survey? Obviously I should have lined them up in the number order for the photo. Also, I should have mentioned which owls were #1 and #2. I mean I did on Flickr but not on my blog. Thank you husband Ben for pointing out that little problem. Anyway, I will be sending one off today (not tellin’) and will let you know when there is more info about the show. I appreciate all your input!

owl 3 and owl 4

Here they are- all 4.

Owl #3-

and owl #4-

and here is the story. You know I am going to be in Chicago for the Renegade Market in September, right? I was thrilled to be invited to take part in a show/contest to do my interpretation of the Renegade owl logo. The show will be going on in their Spotlight Gallery from 9/4 through 10/3 which overlaps the Market. There will be an opening, voting involved and a prize. Now for the hard part. I’ve got to pick one of these cuties to send! Ahhhh- decisions! I am definitely open to opinions…

oh, and btw, someone asked about a pattern. I think this would be a really fun pattern. I will get to work on it when I am back from Chicago, so hopefully we’d be looking at mid-October.

Fabric-A-Brac

Oops! I forgot to post about this earlier! My doll club has organized this stash clean-out. If you are anywhere near central Massachusetts, this looks to be great fun! Here is a link to the location. I will be attending as a shopper not a seller. See you there!

Renegade report

Brooklyn was amazing!

I’ve collected some links to other Renegade reports- the ones that mention me… yeah, because that is why I found them!

The baby stuff at coos and ahhs, a great post including a link to the fantastic marching band, here at 13th Street Studio, and my wonderful booth neighbors- Skylark Studio, Melanie Linder Design, and chez sucre chez who has also posted an excellent report. Thanks for making it such a fun neighborhood!

I saw BoBo Babushka, but missed so many fantastic people who were also exhibiting. Mostly I stayed very busy in my booth the whole 2 days. My husband ran to the local market for water and iced coffee to keep us hydrated. It was very hot both days and some crazy exciting weather on Sunday, but we survived and had a wonderful time.

I met so many nice people who came to my booth- blog readers (THANK YOU!!!), so many people from Etsy, old friends, friends of friends, and new friends. The lovely Floresita of Feeling Stitchy came by. I was so very happy to meet her. I’ve admired the fantastic job she does, keeping us fed on interesting/unusual/contempory embroidery. Richard Saja introduced himself to me, saying- We have been mentioned in the same articles. Wow- he is way more Art then me- His work is awesome.

A few funny things I remember-

toddler points at tattoo man doll and says- look! Somebody made Daddy!

Lady say- these are too expensive. I say- they are not too expensive. You just don’t want to pay that much.

Man says to me as he is walking out of the booth- Excellent business model! ( I think my mouth probably dropped in surprise)

And, there was a FREE photo booth.

Now, time to get back to the studio!
